TERMS & CONDITIONS FOR ENTRY

Everything you need to know to enter

The competition is open to people over the age of 18.

Applicants must be free to attend the award ceremony on Jan 24th 2025 at Swansea Grand Theatre, Singleton St, Swansea SA13QJ

The competition is free to enter.

Submit one 10 page sample of a script.

Scripts must be written in the Welsh language, an original work, not an adaptation, and be written for stage.

The script should include no more than four characters.

The work must not have been professionally produced elsewhere or received any other awards or prizes.

No name or identifying information should be included on the script.

Scripts should be no longer than x 10 A4 pages.

It must be typed, using Times Roman Numeral, font size 12.

Double line spaced (a blank line space between each line)

Pages must be numbered.

Save the file as a Microsoft Word document - .doc or .docx. (No pdf's).

Include a 200-250 word synopsis  at the front of the script. This does not form the 10 pages submitted.

Include a 200-250 word bio as a separate attachment in the same email as the script, with your play's title, your name, your email, phone no. and address.

Title your email submission with the play's title, your full name and Grandramodi. For example: 'A night on the town' - Cerys Jones - Grandramodi.

The winning entry will receive scheduled reviews with a mentor. You will be required to attend either in person or online. 

 

Judging

Submissions will be judged anonymously by a panel of industry professionals.

Jan 10th 2024 -  Shortlist announced via social media

Jan   24th  2025 - Winner announced at The Swansea Grand Theatre - Depot Studio (All shortlisted plays must be available to attend)

Q&A's

 

Can I have submitted my script elsewhere?

No, we expect an original script that has not been submitted, produced, awarded or developed elsewhere.

 

Can I write my script in another language and have it translated into Welsh for submission?

No, the script and outline must be written in Welsh, not a translation from another language.

 

Does my script need to be finished?

No, we encourage you to submit 10 pages of a working script that can be developed for stage. You're also required to submit a full story synopsis in the submission.

 

Do I keep copyright of my script?

Yes, you retain copyright.

 

Can the winning script be produced professionally elsewhere?

For the first 2 years Grandramodi will have the option to take the winning script forward into a Research & Development process.

 

Will I receive feedback on my work if my entry is not shortlisted?

No, given the volume of submissions we are unable to provide feedback.

 

Can I submit a script for musical theatre?

No, the competition is specific to playwriting, however music can play a part in the drama.

 

How does the prize money get awarded?

The winner will initially receive £2,500. Then, on completion of the script, and in agreement with the competition judges and Grandramodi team, a further £2,500 will be awarded. Making the overall prize money £5000.

 

Additional Information
 

We cannot guarantee that the winner's work will be produced.

The judges' decisions are final.

On receipt of the award the winner will be allocated a dramaturg for up to one year to develop the final draft.

The final draft must be submitted no later than Jan 24th 2026
